RomaSinti.eu – a virtual exhibition about the life stories of Holocaust survivors
The life stories of nine Sinti and Roma from various countries who survived the Holocaust as children
Although most people are familiar with the daily persecutions endured by people during World War II, the mistreatment of Sinti and Roma was not discussed until many years after the war, including in their own communities. This exhibition tells the stories of nine children. For example, there is the girl who, for 50 years, was regarded as a symbol of the persecution of the Jews, but who turned out to be Sinti. Or the child, around the same age, who managed to survive the medical experiments performed on Roma and Sinti children. Together, these nine very different stories give us an impression of the events of that period. What exactly happened during this forgotten genocide?

Tweedewereldoorlog.nl is an initiative of partner organisations from the Netherlands dedicated to World War II history. During the preparation of the exhibition on the forgotten genocide of Roma and Sinti, a number of Dutch and international experts were consulted. The exhibition was created on the occasion of the Requiem for Auschwitz, which premiered in Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) on 3 May 2012. On 2 August 2018 the exhibition was accompanied by three stories from Central and Eastern Europe (Hungary, Croatia and Romania).
The project was managed by Nationaal Comité 4 en 5 mei and supported by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance und dem Foundation ‘Remembrance, Responsibility and Future’.
